Ogden RebuildingBoys Team, Only3 Veterans Backivtarr.fOgden, Nov. 24 — Mike Ivey, John Svenson, and Bill Staebler, the main scorers for Ogden a year ago when the Bulldogs compiled a 12-8 record, have left the scene through graduation and incoming Coach Keith Peterson has a problem of developing some new scorers.They ranked fourth, seventh and eighth, respectively in News Republicanland scoring.The Bulldogs were caught off guard by Madrid’s full court pressing defense in their season’s opener and dropped a 62-39 verdict.Madrid’s defense caused Ogden players to throw passes wild frequently and this deficiency hurt the Bulldogs deeply.Coach Peterson is the mentor who had control of those crack class B basketball and baseball teams at Tracy the past couple of years. Peterson’s Tracy team finished second in the class B tourney last winter.A native of Williamsburg, Iowa where he played basketballand baseball. Peterson is a 1950 graduate of Iowa. He has served in the navy and worked for the Amana Refrigeration Corp. and Standard Oil Co. before launching his coaching career.He snent three years at Tracy where his basketball teams com-- piled an amazing 79-8 record h| while his baseball team won 56, lost just 9.During that span Tracy won the Marion county title twice. 51 three times were sectional champs, district champs twice, n | sub-state runner-up once and ./ state finalist once. The Tracy d baseball team gained the state tournament in the falls of 1954 and 1955 and the spring of 1956. The baseball team won the ’s | state title in the fall of 1955. p In the course of events Tracy f captured six sectionals, three a districts, three substates and the i one state championship,•s! There are only three letter n winners on hand this fall and p none of the three held down a j_ regular starting assignment last ,4 winter. Dale Boes, 5-10, senior guard-forward, Don Nelson, 5-8, 4 senior guard, and John Lind-jjholm, 5-10 junior guard, are the monogram wearers Coach Peterson inherited.Peterson has announced that his traveling squad will be determined by the performances of the boys in practice sessions. He intends to have a constantly shifting roster in this season ofrebuilding.The Ogden squad includes; Dale Merriam, 6-3, senior forward-center, Bill Kelley, 6-1, senior guard.
