Schayes Captures I’ Second Place in NBA Scoring RaceINEW YORK, Nov. 23. — The combination of eagle-eyed marksmen and the 24-second rule has brought about the fastest rate of team scoring in the history of the National Basketball Association.The circuit’s nine clubs are traveling at a record pace of 92.6 points per team per game. By comparison, the previous high at this point in a season was 84.2 points per team per game in 1952, ■while a year ago at this time the rate was only 75.4.The 24-secor\d rule, instituted this year, requires that a team shoot for the basket within 24 seconds of gaining possession of the ball.There have been 17 games so far this season in which a team scored more than 100 points, compared to the total-season figure of 28 such performances last year.First-year man Frank Selvy of Baltimore retained his season-long position atop the individual scorers with 77 points in four games last week, bringing his total for the year to 277.Syracuse’s veteran Dolph Schayes, who set the season's fiingle-game shooting high of 39 points against Boston Sunday, collected 92 for the week and moved into second place with 221. Bob Cousy of Boston is the No. 3 individual scorer with a* even 200 markers. ;Paul A r i z i n , Philadelphia’s league scoring champion three :tc years back, has the highest per-jjr game scoring average, 22.6 points;-for each contest, followed by it, teammate Neil Johnston and;5t Cousy with 22.2 each and Selvy j? with 21.3.
