Merrill“Rube Stock dropped in a free throw, hut that was the last Baxter point of the game. Gil-reath sank a charity toss for Mingo with about four minutes left in the game.About a minute later, Center Elrod cut the net with two quick ‘allies to give Mingo their winning 19-17 margin. After that, the game was a mess of fumbles, desperate passes and tie-ups as Baxter tried vainly to at least tie the game.Baxter took a lead at the first of the game, Fuller tied it at 2-2 then Baxter coasted on to a 7-2 edge. They held a three-point margin at the end of the tight first half, 10-7. The veteran Mingo girls roiled upmost of their margin during the last half, despite the fact that an inexperienced Baxter sextet finallybegan to click. With two starting players only In eighth grade. Bax ter picked up only eight points by the half while Mingo scored 23 counters. Mingo led 14-4 at the first turn.Baxter’s little aggregati.on returned after the half to out-score Mingo in the third frame, 20-17, but the first half margin was too great to overcome. A 40-24 advantage at the end of the third stanza grew into a final 51-30 count.Baxter's forwards had quite a bit of trouble with the rangy Mingo guards.
