PUTearStar Grayhound Quarterback Drops Out of School— Goes to Work.Burlington high school’s hopes for a victory over Fairfield in the football game which will be played here Thursday afternoon, the result of which will determine the south-eastern Iowa championship anilz JEHTJt ■ a*so g*ve in* t , n 1 n g team aright tos, claim the stateCOLTON title, were dealta severe blow today with the announcement that Ralph Colton, star quarterback on the Grayhound team, had definitely decided against returning to school. Colton had been absent for the past week and his place at in the game at Ft. Madiswfc last Saturday w as filled by Bill Bol-stnger who did some creditable work.However, Bolsinger, although a hard working player, does not possess the natural ability as a football player which has marked Colton’s work. Coach Thomason has spent considerable time this fall in working with Colton and had developed him Into one of the best back-lleld men In this part of the state. It ia understood that Colton will go to work. Coach Thomason went lo his home in West Burlington yesterday, but reported that he was unable to change the youngster a decision to leave school at this time. Leake M«y l'lay Guard.There is also some doubt as to whether or not Clyde Wiedeman will be able to get into the game at his old position at left guard. If he does not play, Clarence Schmidt, who did good work in the position in the Ft. Madison game, appears to he the logical choice for the position. Coach Thomason recognizes the necessity of having a line which can slap the terrific plunges of Jack Burns, Fairfield's line crushing fullback and stated today that he will groom Byion Leake, husky substitute halfback. for a possible starter in the guard position. Roger Bowen, regular left halfback, is another possible lineman, having started the Iowa City game two weeks ago in Wiedcman's place only to be shotted back to his old position early in the game.A light scrimmage was held at the stadium this evening and this was the only workout ot any proportions that the team will he put through prior to the battle, as the players showed some evidence of going stale in the Ft.
