Dec.Favored Over BulldogsCOACH CLAUDE STONE and CAPTAIN WESLEY NUNEZMid-county’s Yuletide season this year will be the greatest in history, according to Christmas club savings figures reported today.A. L. Brooks, president of the First National bank, announced that on December 1, the bank would mail checks totaling approximately $22,000 to more than 450 club members—record figures for the amount of cash to be saved in the Christmas Bavings at the local bank.Last year’s total was approximately $2il,000. The Christmassavings money will put new spirit into the holiday trade as it will be like an extra payday in this section.Individual checks will run from a few dollars up to several hundred, as the result of weekly savings at rates from 25 cents to $5.00.Christmas clubs each year are used for taxes, fire and life insurance premiums that come due once each year. Most of the Christmas funds are spent for Yuletide gifts.The Port Neches bank has six classes of clubs to select from. The 1940 clubs will open the first week in December.Kickoff Is SetScores of GamesBetween 2 TeamsFor 2:30MThe stage Is set for the annual grid classic, between the Port Neches Indians and the Nederland Bulldogs Saturday. The kickoff is set for 2:30 p. m., with a capacity crowd expected to see the game between two ancient rivals.Port Neches and Nederland have been keen rivals on the gridiron since 1925. There are many men in the two towns at this time that played on the first teams.Ccach Claude Stone will send his Redskin Warriors through a snappy drill this afternoon and off to their homes to get a long rest before the important clash. Port Neches has a chance to play French for the district title next week. The Indians and Buffs are tied at this time for the title. Paul Riley is the only injured man on the Port Nechessquad. He will be out tomorrow with a broken collar bene received in the French game.Nederland Bulldogs haveworked hard this week in an effort to upset their traditional foe. Coach I. B. Griffith said that his team would be ready with only ,a few minor injuries in camp.After a check with football players of the old days, when Nederland and Port Neches used to play two games each season The Chronicle is able to list the scores since the two teams started playing in 192,5.The teams played two gameseach year until 1931, with the exception of 1926, when the Nederland coach took his team eff the field here and went homeafter an argument over a penalty.Port Neches has won 1^ games and Nederland six tilts.
