The seniorcross-country championships will berun in Fairmount Park, starting fromthe Cano? Club on the River Drive.TheWest Philadelphia High School willhave their full strength in the race.They have to defend the Meadowbrooktrophy, which they have won for thelast two years. The cup must be wontimesSpeedboys VictorsIn Two Annual RunswEST PH ILLY HIGH SCHOOL has won thesenior cross-countrychampionship for two yearsstraight. Should they triumphagain today, the MeadowbrookClub trophy will be in their possession permanently. Three consecutive victories are necessaryto retain it for good. The annual races resulted as follows:1917—Frankford High1918—West1919—Central1920—'West Philly1921—West Phillywas the year Charlie Cullman. Charlie Gordon, A1 McCurdy, Charlie Detweiler and Pickholtz were running.That was a great team, one of the best that has ever been assembled under the same colors at one time in the Philadelphia high schools.The following year thlt; delphia barriers, led by Frank Ziebus, won the senior championships with a low score of 24 points. This rare gaveWest Philadelphia its first leg on the trophy.Last season Captain Barney Oldfieldpiloted the team to a second victory. The squad made a great showing, evenjetter than the year before. The teamw?ore was one point low’ef than the year before, with 2B points. The team alsofinished second in the American chain idonships a week later. This was the jest showing ever made by a W est Ph*!-tdelphia crofcs-country :orv of the school.Today the Speedboys hope to make i lower score than last year. Led byCaptain Chesley Jackson, it will be one f the strongest teams that ever ran ’or the Orange and Blue. They do not »xpect this race to be a pink tea affair; n the contrary, they will be fighting aarder in this race than they have thispear- so far. ^ ,The competition will be strong, as Jhe Speedboys have been defeated twicehis year. The championship team of list year was not defeated once by acal high school.
