Mr. Dakin Miller of Malvern made \ this ullioe a brief call Monday while stopping in our town. Dakin baa developed into one of the best ball players in the business. His first experience at playing professional ball was in 1898 when be filled a fielding position in tbe Atchison, Kansas, state league team at 4 be acquired auob a reputation there as a batter and all-around fielder that Man* ager Manning of tbe Kansas Oitys gave him a job for the season of ’99. As a member of this organization he led the whole Western League in both batting and fielding for three months. Bat as his pay was light and he bad a better thing in view at Denver be oommeneed to “dub off” on Kansas Oity until be finally secured his release and the past season has been playing left field for Denver. His record there has been ex -eeptionally brilliant. Daring the entire season he has made but three errors and with possibly two exceptions leads the league in batting. Finally after tbe season was over, tbe eagle eye of Burns tbe manager oftbe Chicago National League team, espied tbe phenomenal record which Dakin has so gloriously attached to himself and immediately set about to secure bis release from Denver, which was eventually done, go next year we no doubt will bear of him taking oare of tb© left field garden for Chicago in the same creditable manner in which he has disposed of a similar position Cor Denver tbe past year.
