» W——I——1 ...! WOKLD UF SPOtfTSKid Ashe and Doc Irish Arc Matchedfor » Twenty Round go in NewarkThanksgiving Afternoon November oO—The Day’s Events._ Yesterday's sporting column of the Advoc-ate contained a notice of the match that had been made between Kid Ashe and Doc Irish, two well known lightweights. This match had been originally made to take place before one of the Cincinnati clubs, but as the recent attempts in that city to promote boxing had met with poor results, the managers of the men in question decided to try for a purse elsewhere. The Newark AtMetic club had alreadysigned Kid Ashe to box with any 133pound man in the United States, andhad lines out for Jack McClelland, ofPittsburg, Barney Purey and TommyWhite. The club failed to locate McClelland, Furey drew the color line; and White had a previous engagement for the 30m of November. The Club therefore immediately telegraphed to Ashe’s manager the amount of purse it could offer for the Ashe-Irish match, and today received articles of agreement signed by both men to go 20 rounds before the club on the afternoon of the 30th of this month, to weigh 133 pounds at the ring side and to divide the purse 75 per cent to winner, 25 per eent to loser. These two men are very equally matched and both have to their credit decisions over good men in the clubs of Louisville, Lexington and Memphis, besides several bouts at Cincinnati and towns in Indiana. There is no doubt that this will be one of the fastest bouts ever held before the club, as both men are equally matched as to weight, a forfeit having been posted to do 133 pounds at the ring sido. Another reason why this should be a fast bout is that the men have been trying to get together for a number of months, both having obtained good, clean decisions over the same boxers, hut never having met in the roped arena. The admission to the contest, which will be held at the Music ’Hall Will be $1 to lower floor and stage and 50 cents to the gallery. Tickets with coupons attached entitling the holder to a reserved seat, may he secured in advance for the price of admission, $1, af the Music Hall Cafe.
