V.Iii;I1i1I!V.1Ab GowanlockGowintoThanking everyone “who was mixed up in this, Dauphin's Ab Gowanlock accepted his induction to the Manitoba Sports Hall of Fame Saturday evening at the International Inn in Winnipeg.Gowanlock, who was the only rural Manitoba curler to win the Brier twice, the first time in 1938 and the second in 1953, was one of nineathletes inducted into the hall of fame. More than 700 people were at the induction ceremonies.Albert Adam (Ab)Gowanlock, curling since he was 15 years old, was inducted to the hall under the athlete category.nlock inductedHalil ‘Curling withGowanlock when he won his first Brier were E.C. (Bung) Cartmell and brothers Bill and Tom McKnight. They went through the Toronto Brier undefeated and took the award back home to Glenboro. The '58 rink had Jim Williams, Art Pollon and Russ Jackman and the foursome lost two games at the Sudbury Brier, made the playoffs and beat Quebec in the final. They brought the honor back home toDauphin. * '*5^ ' ' Along with his two Manitoba and Canadian titles, Gowanlock won thegrand aggregate of theCurling four times57Manitoba Associationand curled in dy consecutive MCA bonspiels winning 24 trophies, 21 of them as skip.He scored an eight-ender in his first MCA Bonspiel.Gowanlock has also given back to the game serving as presidents of the Glenboro and Dauphin Curling Clubs. He had two terms as second vice-president of the MCA.
