Campus Editor in California Writes Low-DownOn Todays Game; 40,090 Expected to AttendBy O. K. KING, JR., Editor, The CampusLos Angeles, Cal., Nov* 20.— (via air mail)—California looks forward to the Mustang-Bruingame here in the coliseum today. The respect, which grid fans in this section hold for the Ponies is remarkable. Handling publicity for the team, I have been accorded every privilege possible. Most questions center on Matty Bell’s razzle-dazzle, but a large share of interrogations are concerned with the Mustang band. This organization will probably draw as many cash customers through the gates as the team it-U. C. L. A. has very little strength, other than Kenny Washington, a negro halfback, and Woodrow Wilson Strode, negro end. No one toinks much about negroes playing on the Bruin team, but after giving the Southerners’ viewpoint to several sports editors, I find they think we’re nuts.”self.As for the game, the Mustangs should win by a score of 13 to 7.The idea in these parts is that if a negro can play better than anyone else, let him play. , The Mustangs voted to play against the negroes, but I wouldn’t vouch for their sweetness” in dealing with the duskies.”News that will gladden the ears of Jimmy Stewart, S. M. U. business manager of athletics, comes from Ben Person, publicity director for the Bruins. Ben estimates a crowd of between 35 to 40 thousand. Compared with our crowdsof 10 to 12 thousand, it appears that the Mustang athletic department will reap a fair profit. The team arrived Friday at 7:30 a. m. The boys were photographed with everybody from porters tomotion picture stars. (Pre-ar-*ranged by S. M. U. publicity department.) After making headquarters at the Biltmore hotel, in the heart of L. A., the boys ate lunch and retired to the coliseum for a light practice session.Matty is convinced of one thing. Too much running around is not good for football players; consequently, he will keep most of the fellows under his strong right wing.Unless the band makes a movie short while here, the team will leave for Dallas Saturday night; otherwise, the departure will take place Sunday morning.
