DickKineery(6-3) usually goes after the initial tipoff, Roger Stout (6-0) and Bill Salsbery (5-11) open at the forward positions and Eugene Watson (5-7) is at one of the guard spots.Eric Eaton (5-9) has had Blessing’s nod to start at the other guard position.ow start%The Spartans opened the sear-on against Windfall’s Dragons and suffered a 69-54 loss. They bounced back wibi a narrow 72-71 victory over Kewanna but went back into the losing column last Saturday with a 72-51 defeat at the hands of Caston’s Comets.Blessing said before the season opened that SharpsvUle could be a good team this year with good defense and good rebounding. So ttie Spartans wUl have to better their defense after allowing an average of 70 points per game in their first three outings.Against Windfall, the Spartans were topped on the backboards, losing tl» rebound tattle, 36-28, And now, it appears Blessing knew what he was talking about when he gave his pre-season prediction that the defense and rebounding would have to be as good as possible if SharpsvUle is to have a winning season. Also on Blessing's varsity roster are Mike Watson, 5-11senior forward; Dennis Oakes, 6-2 1/2 junior center; Larry Miller, 6-0 junior forward; Sandy Shaff, 5-10 junior forward; Mark Stahl, 5-11 junior guard; Gary MUler, 5-91/2 sophomore guard, and Gregg Richards, 5-8 1/2 sophomore guard.Coach Blessing is in his second year at the helm of the Spartans and is a 1959 graduate of SharpsvUle High School. He played on the ’59 team that wonthe Tipton County Tournament and finished the season with a 16-5 mark. Blessing averaged more than 20 points during his last year of prep basketball. He became head coach after Jerry Manahan took over athletic director chores at Western High School,And if there is any one game that Blessing would like to forget, it has to be last year’s tUt with the Blue DevUs. Tiptonswamped SharpsvUle, 103-77, and it would be sweet revenge for Blessing this year should the Spartans top the ’DevUs Wednesday night.\. .
