BY HUGH CONRADSPORTS#TRIBDEM.COMLORETTO - St. Francis honored some of its top athletes, coaches, teams, and administrators Saturday at the MauricewStokes Athletics Center as the school inducted six individuals and tvvo teams into its Sports Hall of Fame,Ex-women’s basketball great Stacv Alexander, a former standout player for Portage Area High School, was inducted for her accomplishments as a member of the St. Francis women’s basketball team.“This is not a sad night, it is a night to celebrate awonderful man.”BRENDA GUZIC, DAUGHTER OF THE LATE ART MARTYNUSKAIn her senior season in 1995-96, Alexander and her teammates captured the Northeast Conference tournament championship, the first of ninexrrn j.^1__• xl______l 1 a_______football program were honored.The late Art Martynuska, who coached from 1969 until 1981, and linebacker Jerry Zahorchak, were both inducted.Martynuska was the first coach for the Red Flash after the school instituted the program in 1969 after being without a team for 16 years.rMartynuska, a native of Lilly,w ' W*guided the program from club status to NCAA Division III.He has more wins (45) than any football coach in school history.
