WWTESBORO WINS FROM GUNTER 7-6Coach Bo Reid’s Whitosboro Bearcats defeated the Gunter Tigers 7-6last Friday night on a raid soaked field to retain third place In confre-ence 15-B. The Bearcats came from behind late in the final period to score on a lateral from Tecfdy Dutton to Tommy Murphy. Dutton knifed his way down to the 11 yard line from the 25 and tossed a lateral to Murphy who raced on across untouched. Dutton annexed the winning point by plunging over right tackle.The Bearcats staved off a desperate last quarter Tiger aerial attack that found the Tigers on the Bearcats 15 yard line with a first down. However, Bibbs and Burrows trapped the Tigers' passing ace, Carlos Parker, for a 12 yard loss to move the brill back to the 27 and an offside penalty placed the ball on the 32. The Gunter team managed to penetrate the 20 but lost the ball on downs and as the Cats took possesion the clock ran out.The first half found the teams deadlocked 0-0 as they wollowedeach other in the heavy mud that was like muck. The Tigers won the first half as they outplayed the Reid Regulars, gaining 6 first downs to the Bearcat's 3, and chalking up 2 penetrations to 1.Coach Sam Barnes Tigers scored in the third quarter after Doyle Price had taken Carlos Parker's passon the 32 to the 7 yard line. The Tigers gained 4 yards on two plays and a penalty against, the Cats gave the Gunter team possession on the 1 yard line where Johnson scored over his right tackle. The pass for extra point was too tall.A good crowd of local fans followed the team to Gunter end the pep-squad was on hand to put on a fine half-time performance.
