But as the bout went on, Smith, I the Californian heavyweight, wearied and Langford assumed the aggresive, sending ! left and right to Smith’s body at short range, while the latter swung unsuccessfully at Langford's head.Spectators Surprised.So many and so strong were Langford’s blows in tiie closing round that many of the spectators expressed surprise at the decision of the referee, Dick Fleming. Smith fatigued as the fight neared the end and hung onto his oponent, while Langford, although apparently carrying more weight than at any time in his career, appeared the stronger. Langford escaped unmarked.
