Those boys will be expected out next week, following the closing of football season this weekend.Pirate basketball coach Bill Gunn announced that he expected a total of 24 hopefuls when all the lads had arrived. This is Gunn’s fourth year of coaching at Sinton, and his first look at Class AAA basketball.Last year was Gunn's best quint here, as he posted a 19-9 won-lost record. From that quint, Jimmy Ray Thames will be the only returning starter. Of the 24 hopefuls, Gunn will be expecting four seniors, ten juniors and ten sophomores.District 14AAA has been divided into North and South zones, with four teams in the south zone and five in the north zone. Sinton, West Oso, Flour Bluff and Robstown will make up the south zone, while Beeville, Refugio, Gonzales, Cuero and Pleasanton will battle it out for the north zone. The zone champs will meet in a two out of threeseries to determine the conference winner.The Pirates have dropped the Weslaco Holiday Tournament from their schedule this season, and instead, have moved their tourney to the Christmas Holidays. This year will be the biggest, and hopefully the best, Sinton Tournament ever held, according to Gunn.Sixteen teams wiil vie for top honors in the Sinton Tournament, with trophies awarded to first, second, and third places, as well as consolation champ. In addition, ten all-tournament players will be announced.R(Glt;BSCP»MFCFRefugio, Ingleside, George West, Gregory-Portland, Taft, Freer, Mathis, Flour Bluff, Bishop, Beeville, San Diego, Robstown, Pettus, Benavides, Callallen and Sinton will be represented in the tourney.The Corsair cagers will play approximately 24 games this season, depending upon their outcome in the tournaments.
