Monumental remodelingby April StockdaleThe familiar chime of the Humboldt High School Victory Bell is a sound nearly taken tot granted. It was not until early October, of this year, that questions about the history of this instrument of pride arose.Due to the construction work done to the HHS Southeast parking area the Victory Bell had to beremoved and reset. The Humboldt High School 1995-1996 Student Senate needed to raise money for the cost of the cement used to lay a new foundation for the Victory Bell. The installation cost was deterred by the HHSFuture Fanners of America class. The FFA was kind enough to donate their muscles to the resetting of the Victory Bell as one of their commun-ittee service projects. The Student Senate researched the history of the Victory Bell, When was the Victory Bell first put up? was a question only the Nokomis research could tell.Through time the history of monumental events are forgotten. As is the case of the Victory Bell. The Nokomis research told the tale of the1968 Humboldt High School Pep Council, This spirited group, of thenhlgh-schoolers, so gener-. ously bought our Victory Bell. This group consisted of; Jan Benson, Wendy Dittmar, Leri Binger. Judy Weiss, Marilyn Blomker, Terry Mealiff, Son]a Lod-den, Cynthia Olson, and Tom Thomas. The 1968 Pep Club Officers included; Pat Reekers, Julie Ruble, Cindy Cran, Tom Swearingen. and John Mesicek. The Victory Bell has been reset and more money is still to be raised. The memories that the bell makes will continue to build for many more years to come.
