Bay Springs BulldogsRallyToTieNortheast111ELLISVILLE — The Bay Springs Bulldogs overcame a second quarter 20-0 deficit to tie the Northeast Jones Tigers 20-20, here Friday night in the sixth annual Jaycee Bowl.The game ended in a tie and Jt was decided that there would be no overtime play The tie gives Bay Springs a 8-2-1 record for the ’74 season, while Northeast Jones finished the season with a 7-3-1 record.First HalfThe Northeast Tigers received the opening kickoff and drove 78 yards in nine plays to score the first touchdown of the game. The score came with five minutes left In the first quarter, when quarterback Danny Rasberry went over on a one yard run. Rusty Milner kicked the extra point and the Tigersled 7-0.The Tigers scored again earlyIn the second quarter on a 93 yard touchdown pass from Rasberry to Mike Crumbly. Milner kicked the extra point, his 15th this year, and with 11:35 left in the second quarter, Northeast led 14-0.The Tigers kicked off to the Bulidogs. The Tiger defense held the Dogs’ to minus two yards in three plays and on fourth down, Bay Springs was forced to punt. The Tigers took the ball on their 25 yard line and drove down to the Bay Springs six yard line before the Bulldog defense could stop them. On fourth down, an incomplete pass gave the ball to Bay Spring*. Two plays later, the Bulldogs fumbled and Northeast recovered on theBulldog six-yard line. The Tigers scored three plays later on a three yard run by fullback Dave Morgan, the point after attempt was no good and with 2:10 left in the second quarter, Northeast led 20-0 With ten seconds left In the first half, Bay Springs scored the first touchdown of a dramatic comeback. The score came on a 16-yard touchdown pass from quarterback Morris Miley to split end Ranee Ulmer. The try for the two point conversion failed and as the first half of play ran out, Northeast led, 20-6.Second HalfBay Springs took the second half kickoff and drove 61 yards in nine plays for a touchdown. The score came on a two-yard run by fullback Warren Garvin. The Bulldogs went for two points and were successful. With 8:08 left in the third quarter, Northeast’s lead wasseriously in danger, 20-14.The Bulldog defense kept the Tiger offense in the hole after the kickoff and forced them to punt from their own endzone. Bay Springs took over the ball on the Northeast 36-yard line and scored five plays later. The score came on 17 yard run by Warren Garvin. The try for two failed and with 5:39 left in the game the score was tied. 20-20.The game ended in a tie.Most Outstanding DefensivePlayerTailback Billy Moffett of the the Tigers was defensive tackle Outstanding Offensive Back. Moffett rushed for 130 yards on 15 carries for a 8.6 rushing average.End Ranee Ulmer of BaySprings received the Most Outstanding Lineman Award for his outstanding performance. Ulmer scored the Bulldogs first touchdown of the game when he caught a 16 yard pass from QB Miley.The Most Outstanding Defensive Player Award went to Rusty Milner of Northeast who played an outstanding defensive game. Besides playing defensive end, Milner also kicks field goals and extra point for the Tigers.Not receiving an award but playing an excellent game for the Tibers was defensive tackle David W’est.
