Club looksto reopen GlenorkeyOrganizers hope it will be downhill all the way when they reopen the Glenorkey ski hill for the first time in three years.Lack of snow and organization has kept the hill closed for the last three years, but a new group of volunteers has taken up the challenge, said Norris Murray, director of the Brandon Winter Recreation Community Club.Mr. Murray said about $2,000 is needed to upgrade the chalet and equipment at the hill, located about five kilometres northwest of Brandon. Most of that will come from season ticket sales and donations. Windows brokenAbout $900 is needed to replace windows broken by vandals.Mr. Murray said the work should be completed in time for opening day. Another 15 centimetres of snow is required for skiing on the 55-metre hill“I hope we get a lot of support. There’s been a lot of interest among skiers in Brandon,” he said.Mount Glenorkey has a 305-metre slope and a tow rope, along with ski rentals.Mr. Murray said organizers have planned an annual meeting this Monday at Agricultural Extension Centre. — Sun Staff............................—....A.Sun File PhotoTHE WAY IT WAS: Young downhillers take to the slopes at Glenorkey in this 1979 photograph
