TWO NEW RECORDS.Major Taylor Rides theJMilein 1.32 Flat.This is Three-Fifths Better Than the Time of His Namesake.Record for the Half Mile isTwice Lowered in the Same Day at Philadelphia.PHILADELPHIA, Nov 12—Malor Tay-lor made three most wonderful rides today. Taylor lowered the mile record of the world, the one standard record of excellence, by three-flfths of a second. and he twice out the half-mile record down, taking it by two and one-fifth seconds once, and two and two-flfths seconds the second time.The weather was anything but right, the cold being intense. The thermometer was down to freezing this morning, and this afternoon ice formed along the pole of the track, and the chilly brpeze made the pace makers chatter as they rode.Taylor started the mile back of theCrooks quint, made a perfect pickup atthe third to the Sager quint and thenjumped a clear 10 yards from the Sagerquint to the Callahan quint at the two-thirds and caught It. The time for the first third was 29%s. but for the two-tliirds is unknown. There was the greatest excitement as Taylor went the hist third, flashing over the tape in lm 32s, the former mark of lm 32 3-5* being held by French Taylor. Without a rest the lad kept on and the Crooks team came out to carry him the first part of the half, the Callahan team being scheduled to pick up. But Callahan failed on the bank and Crooks went through wdth the lad, finishing in 45 4-5s, the former record officially being held by Windle at 18» and made on a mile track.Taylor wanted faster time yet, and after a 10-minute rest the Callahan team and Sager team lined tip.The former team carried the Sager team the first quarter, and Taylor followed the Sager through in 45 3-5s, a cut of another fifth. Had the Callahan team not botched matters on the stretch Taylor would have beaten 45s, hut in turning out this team threw’ the Pager team out of its stride and Taylor dropped hack. He (dosed another gap in the stretch and finished easy, not at all tired from his three record rides.
