DAItY HERALD TUIS NOV 11, 1»75 PAGE *MinookarecognizesB\ HUH SONKNF I I D Herald Sports E ditorMINOOKA Ninetystudents were lauded for sports participation Monday night at the 1975 Minooka High School boys' fall athletic banquet The varsity and frosh soph football squads, which held 6-3 and 3-7 records respectively, in addition to the unbeaten varsity and frosh soph cross-country teams were honored The guest speaker was Zvgmont lt;Ziggie Czarobski. a former tackle on three national championship Notre Dame football teams, who entertained his audience with humor and then persuaded the parents to always have faith in thevyounger generation He emphasized traditional values such as discipline, competition should not be undermined Czarobski is presently the administrative assistant toMichael .1 Hewlett, Secretary of State He was also a member of Mayor Daley’s Department of Human Resources, a member on President Nixon's Council for Retarded Children and did volunteer activities which included working at the SpecialOlympics and Maryville AcadennHf itCzarobski, who attended Mt Carmel High School on the South Side of Chicago, later captained the East team in the East West Football Shrine game in San Francisco, 1948 He also plaved three vears ofmm’ *professional football in the All-American Conference with the Chicago Rockets.The jollv man told of how he tried helping the boys at the St Charles Boys Training School •‘I had them fill out cards to find out what sports they wanted to play most,” he said “I could have brought them afootball or basketball, anything ”Ziggy said an overwhelming response told him that the delinquent boys preferred cross-country and pole-vaulting probably to clear the high barbed wire fence which encompasses the institution In Minooka cross-country, Tom Clennon was named MostValuable Runner, Dave Loskill, Most Improved; and John Cnderhill. Reed Perrywas Most Valuable Back and Steve Geiss won Most Improved Player Other varsity players honored were Bob Eaton. Mark Hunt. Dave Mitchell, Larry O'Brien, Doug Powell. Dan Sauerwein, Chris Underhill, John Voras, Bill Waite. Gary Williamson, Tom Alberico, Jacque Benavente. Dave Bretsch, John Fillipitch, Don Flynn and Dennis Geiss Also feted Dan Hadaway, Terry Glennon. Wade Lloyd. Tom Lyons, Mike Mattingly, Mark Mitchell, Steve Porter.
