Meggie Miller(Continued from ID)for Miller, a senior who finished with 22 kills on 26 successful attacks. She made only three attacking errors.“Meggie has really come through for us, at the net and all around the floor,” said Williamsport coach Kristi Gee. “She has been one of our best passers and hitters, and has really been a good leader.“The girls seem to know where she is all the time. I think she has a presence about her. And I think they set her a little bit more than usual tonight because it was a must-win situation for us.”Miller also had 22 digs and six service points. Lindsey Flotner complemented Miller’s net play with 10 kills and five blocks, while Grabill had 18 assists and Sullivan 16 assists. Katie Saufley had 11 service points.“She’s an incredible player,” Southern coach Sue Newton said of Miller. “Everything we tried, as soon as we changed things, she adjusted. In the first part of the match her hits were coming down in front or our back row. So we brought our back row up a little and then she was putting it over our heads.“Sne had great control of where she wanted to put the ball and she was very consistent. I think we were focusing on her so much and cheating for the double-block that it enabled (Lindsey Plotner) to have some good success at the net, too.”Southern’s Jessica Sharon was 14-for-15 on the attack and had six kills, as did Erika Steyer. Kristen Rollman had nine assists and Stephanie Niner seven points.Williamsport scored nine of the first 10 points of the opening game, and after Stephanie Niner served for four consecutive points to cut it to 9-5, the Wildcats scored six in a row to close out the 15-5 win.Miller, who had a kill on Gra-bill’s assist on game point, had six kills and four points in the game. The Hams hurt themselves by failing to get four serves in'play.Alexis Storey served for the first three points of the second game to put Southern on top quickly, and the Rams trailed by only 7-6 after an ace by NineV midway through the game. But Williamsport won eight of the next 10 points, and ended the game again on a Grabill set and a Miller kill.Plotner had four kills in the third game, which Williamsportput away early by building an 8-0 lead. The closest the Rams got was 9-3 on a kill by Julia Bosley, and again, Grabill and Miller teamed for the final point at the net.“This is a loud gym, and we really had to concentrate on our communication, Gee said. “We did that pretty well, and I have to credit Southern for the way they played. They had some wonderful passing that really kept them in a lot of rallies.”Williamsport is an eight-time state champion and was state runnerup to Smithsburg lastyear. The two split their regular-season matches this year.Southern was plaving in its first region final, and each year in Newton’s five seasons' the Rams have improved their win total. This year’s 13 wins is a school record.“We've had a fantastic season,” she said. “It takes a lot of hard work, and this group of girls put in the work, from the weight room and practices to summer camps and summer leagues. We played well, but just not as well as we needed to tonight.”
