si ff airs.oiin a National Way”Col. Peter O. Knight, of Tampa, is Florida’s first citizen. He is known and honored all over the elate. In many ways, he has rendered the state distinguished service. He has always been Its champion when its interests have been challenged. His democracy is unquestioned. It is interesting, therefore, to have him tell us that “the best thing that has ever happened to Florida in a national way has been the carrying of it by Hoover.” This is the way the result of the election impresses a great many citizens of the state, irrespective of their party allegiance. Colonel Knight says he has received “a multitude of telegrams from the biggest men in the United States” congratulating Florida for its action. Some time ago, Colonel Knight stated that it would be a good thing for Florida if, politically, it were debatable territory. The outcome of the election NovemberSt h certainly puts Florida in that position. Hereafter, we may expect to see political contests In this state “pepped up.” As Colonel Knight sees the situation, the fact that Florida is a debatable state v ill secure “a better and more efficient and economical administration of local affairs.” If the people of Florida will be generous and tolerant In their political attitude, the existence of two parties in militant form, each zealously seeking the ascendancy, can be productive only of good results.Country Club Re-organizedWhitfield Country club will continue to function and perform a [in# service for Sarasota. Steps have been taken to revive interestit in a position to provide for the people of Sarasota and their guests a season of delightful social entertainment. The club house is to be renovated and put in apple-pie order for social festivities and nine holes of the golf course are to be opened for play. The Whitfield Country club possesses one of the finest properties in the state. Theclub house is elegant and capacious and the golf course is sporty and inviting. This winter the dues are to be placed at $50.00 and tax, and the initiation fee waived, but the membership is to be a selected membership. Last year the club kept open house frequently, but this year the privileges of the club are to be restricted entirely to the members and their out-of-town guests. A committee has been appointed to prepare a new plan of organization and outline the club’s activities for the, season. The club will function with a new complement of officers and committees. With a view of providing for Sarasota’s winter guests entertainmentwhich will make their stay in Sarasota pleasant. Special attention will be given to their accommodation. The active membership will be restricted to 100 families, as that isabout the maximum of people for whom there is room for comfortable entertainment in the club house.
