After two rounds, none remains.Foremost among the fallen champs are Bettendorf and West Branch, each a winner the last two years. No. 2 Iowa City High dumped top-ranked Bettendorf 27-17 in the Class 4A quarterfinals Monday night and No. 4 Columbus Junction beat No. 2 West Branch 27-19 in 1A play.And as the Bulldogs and Bears went down, so did the state’s two longest winning streaks. Bettendorf had won 30 in a row, West Branch 36.Defending Class A champion Bedford also was eliminated. Madrid avenged its quarterfinal loss to Bedford last year with a21-6 victory, ending the top-ranked Bulldogs’ 19-game winning streak.Waverly-Shell Rock, last year’s 3A champion, lost in the first round. Defending 2A champ West Union North Fayette failedto qualify for the playoffs.Tim Dwight ran for 241 yards and scored four touchdowns to lead Iowa City High past Bettendorf in the feature game of the evening. The victory ended a year-long wait for the Little Hawks (11-0), who lost to Betten-dorf 31-28 in last year’s quarterfinals.West Branch and Columbus Junction were tied 13-13 in the third quarter when Columbus Junction (11-0) drove 57 yards in 10 plays to take the lead on Jeff Mohror’s 3-yard touchdown pass to Mark Shellmyer, who made a leaping catch in the end zone.
