Central, 15-14FLORENCE — There will always be 13 seconds left in the 1974 football season for some disgruntled Lawrence County High School fans, as here last night the final game of the season was called with that time remaining and players and fans from both sides of the field brawling over a disputed 15-14 Central of Florence win over the Moulton team.The fight, which prompted the officials to call the game, errupted after a David McKelvey field goal attempt with 22 seconds to go was declared no good, much to the heated protest of Moulton fans and coaches alike.On the first play after the misse^field goal, a fight began between players on the field as Central put the ball in play and in 8 split second both benches errupted onto the field, fans followed and the referees called a halt to the football season, with Moulton going out a loser, but the possessor of a respectable 6-4 record.Central won the see-saw battle in the fourth quarter when Bobby. Moore ran a two point conversion following a Henry Simmons touchdown from 47-yards out. with 8:15 left in the contest.Central also started the scoring on a Moore touchdown from five yards out on the first play of the second quarter. Dan Davis kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead.Moulton scored on a nine-play drive opening the second half, Danny Taylor doing the honors on a 10-yard run, but a motion penalty nullified the first extra point kick and a bad pass from center spoiled McKelvey s second attempt at the PAT and Central led 7-6 with 7:27 left in the third quarter.Moulton finally took the lead later in the quarter on a McKelvey three-yard plunge and a McKelvey to Mike Buttram pass for two extra points.Moulton then led 14-7, but Central mounted its 63-yard winning drive following the kickoff.Late in the game Moulton drove to the Central 10, where McKelvy booted the disputed field goal attempt, the fight started and the officials ended the season for both teams.*
