I'— ■ —Dawson's impressed with what he’sseenby KEN COLEMANSun Sports WriterConsidering the magnitude of the Jeux Canada Winter Games, there will undoubtedly be some questions arise that local chairmen won’t be able to answer.For that purpose, Farl Dawson, the Western representative of the federal minister responsible for sport, is in Brandon this week. He will be here to answer any questions the chef-de-missions may ask.The chef-de-missions will be here from all provinces to take part in the final briefing session before the Games. It’stheir last opportunity to offer any suggestions.“My job as Federal Liaison is to act as advisor for all areas related to the Games, whether it be technical, financial, protocol or transportation, said Dawson. “If Brandon people don’t have the answers, hopefully I have.”It’s not a new experience for Dawson. He has been involved with the Games in a similar capacity since 1971 at Saskatoon.He did say, however, thatthe Games in Brandon arethe biggest to date. But, “it’s the same play, just different actors,” he said.q“There used to be three of us doing this job, but now it’s down to just me. . with support from the office (in Ottawa).Because of his position, Dawson has been involved in the discussions regarding the future of the Jeux Canada Games. It has been reported that the Federal Government may withdraw its financial support, but Dawson said that will not happen.“We had a review of the entire concept with that thought in mind,” he said. “It was suggested that the Games be dropped after 1981, but it was unanimous that they be continued.“In fact,” he added, “we are expecting an announcement from Ottawa before the end of Decem-The biggest sporting event ever to be held in Brandon, the Canada Winter Gomes, will be in the national spotlightFeb. 12-24, 1979. Organization of the Games, under president Alex Matheson, is a monumental task, of which thousands of volunteers are involved.
