THE WEEKLY TRIBUNSEYMOUR ON THE LONG END-13 TO 61friryyLast Friday afternoon the high school football team played the neighboring team, Seymour. I believe Seymour had the best team but only by a very small margin. The visitors had a little more experience and weight. Moulton was equal to Seymour in all other fields except rushing. Our team played very nice defence and held the opponents back very good. When Moulton got the ball on offence they always drove down the field for some gain. When spectators arrived, the two teams were down on the field warming up. Running up and down the field limbering up their bodies, doing callisthenics to find stiff muscles, seeing that everything is in fine shape for the long hard game that was to be fought to see which had the best team.Seymour Scores In First Quarter The game started as Moulton kicked to their opponents. Several downs were attempted by Seymour in their own territory, but not much yardage was gained. They punted, Moulton received it cn the 20 yard line and marched back up the field. Then they punted back to Seymour, and they advanced down the field gaining a yard or two on each play to the 2 yard line. A line plunge was attempted, Moulton stopped them on the goal line, pushing desperately to hold the ball carrier back. The whistle blew, and the ref” signalled it was a touchdown if it was it was only by inches—small inches. The extra point was made by a pass over the left end of the line. Marvin Rogers made a very neat block, but another Seymour Poy, caught th'e blocked pass and fell over the goal line, making the score 7 to 0.Six More Points For Seymour When the ball is put into play the second quarter Moulton controls it on their own 45 yard line. They punt to Seymour’s 30 and the ball starts to move towards Moulton’s goal line. Four first downs are made by the rivals as they march down the field. They move to Moulton’s 5 yard line. Again Seymour made, or missed a touchdown by very few inches. Both teams pushed against each other battling hard. The “ref” blew his whistle, threw up his arms, and politely announced that Seymour had made a touchdown. The extra point was no good. So it’s 13 to 0.Seymour then kicked to Moulton, and they began to march hard into Seymour’s territory. With only seconds to play, Moulton fights to score, but the half comes too soon.Moulton Scores In 3rd Quarter During the third quarter Moulton controls the ball most of the time. Moving from their own 30, Moulton marches into Seymour’s ground with very little trouble. Making 3 first downs Moulton moved to Seymour’s 25. From there Francis Davis took the ball around left end and ran it up to the 3, where he fell and fumbled. The ball rolled over the goal line and our 1. t., George Ballew pounced down on it to make a touchdown. The extra point was no good. Thus it stands 13 to 6.The fourth quarter Moulton really had a good workout on defence. All but two minutes of the game was played within Moulton’s territory. Twice the ball was forfeited to Moulton on fourth downs, and they kicked from the end zone. Finally, with two minutes to play, Seymour passed into the end zone, and the ball was given to Moulton on the 20 From there Moulton began to march. They advanced up the field in 3 plays, 'but as it always must do, the game ended. The score stood at 13 to 6.The Moulton boys played a swell game and worked hard for what they got, they played a good team, that played a very nice game, but there was much doubt in the minds of the spectators, to whether or not Seymour should have won.Statistics:Moulton Seymour6 First Downs 13125 Yards gained by rushing 2606 Passes attempted 61 Passes completed 212 Yards gained by passes 90 Passes intercepted 033 Punting Average 3325 Yards lost by penalties 25Line-up:Q.
