But Hunt’s Lauren West did both onSaturday.And these weren’t a pickup gameat the park or a leisurely jog. No, theWarriors' freshman played in theKeppner Cup state soccer tournament with her ‘96 Wilson Explosionteam in Burlington, then jumped inher parent’s car and ran in the 3-AN.C. High School Athletic Asso-sonal-best time in the race 19 minutes, 26.51 seconds on the course atBeeson Park.Oh, and the soccer team won toearn a spot in this weekend’s finalfour tournament to be played at theGillette Soccer Complex.All in a day’s work, West said.“I’m kind of used to it,” she said ofthe double-duty work. “I had plenty of time to recover between them. 1pretty much do it eveiy time. I havesoccer practice and then I run.”She admitted to being nervous,however, at her first state meet.“It was very exciting, but I wasdefinitely nervous when I saw howmany runners there were,” she said of the 130-runner event. “I think Idid pretty well for it being my firststate meet. 1 set a goal to be in thetop 20 and to get my time under 20 minutes.
