NOVEMBER 5MONDAYOanfon Gamblers Bet# •ting Against Red and White Eleven in theBefore a crowd of 2200 spectators about 300 of whom were from Canton, the MassUlon Tigers defeated the Orange Athletic team of Wilmington, Del,, on Saturday afternoon, Tho game was supposed to be a contest I between two of the best teams in t h0 country as the Massillon peop’e had advertised the visiting team to be tho champions of the east. The visitors played like a lot of amateurs during the entire game the only exception being when they got the ball on Massillon's 20 yard line about four minutes after play began m I the first half, but all opportunity to score was lost when one of the visitors made a fluke kick, giving Massillon possession of the ball, which they kept until they made a touchdown after seven and a half minutes of play. After this it was easy for the Tigers, and a great many times the visitors absolutely offered no interference when one of the Tigers got possession of the ball.Only once during the garne was any animosity shown by the visitors and that was when one of the Orange men accused the Massillon aggregation ofMoran of the Tigerspromptly answered the accusationv* a stinging blow in the accuser’s face, and he was promptly ejected from the game by Captain Shiring. The features of the game were thoplaying of Robinson and Parratt who r made long runs across the field.Thomas, one of the halfbacks who ) played under the name of Drake In last year's Canton and Massillon game,r also played well. Vanderboom ono of the men imported from Wisconsin.d; started out at a lively gait but was1 - * - • -injured about one of his knees which forced his retirement from the game.Taken as a whole the Massillon defense was anything but brilliant, while little can be said in the way of Bi praise for any of the members of tho Orange team. k A very noticeable thing was teat I Canton gamblers were givenj the; privilege of the side linos by theMassillon management, a courosy I heretofore shown only to newspap r j. men and officials. It was learned aft -2 er the game that the Canton gambling3 fraternity (that is those known as the 3 professionals) are almost to a manj betting against the Canton team. One r! of them placed a bet in Massil’on, a . Canton man taking the long end of it , ! that Canton would not score In the j game to be played in this city on November 16th. The Canton man staked . $100 towards the gambler's $75 on the proposition. The action of the “poker fraternity'' r of this city, betting against the Can-| ton team, will no doubt be looked up-r on with some suspicion especially after they have been received writh open j arms by the Massillon management. The score:, Massillon—77.
