InNorth Title GameAiredales Defeat BobcatsALMA — The Alma Airedales turned a predicted fight-to the finish contest mto a 36 6 rout here Tuesday night and claimed the District 1 A North Championship for the second straight year as they downed the Berry-vilie Bobcats.Bullish fullback Marvin Dailey kept a stranglehold onhds state scoring lead with 22 points in the affair to boost his total to 123 for the year. The 220 pound runner also picked up 129 yards rushing to lead both teams.Quarterback Gary Dean pleased the home town fans with a 14 point output to raise his total to 59. The Airedale field general also directed the winders to a whopping 367 yards total offense.Dean scored the evenings first touchdown with a 48 yard romp with 6:56 remaining in the opening stanza The extra point con-verson attempt failed.The Alma signal caller put more points on the board in the second period when he broke over from three yards out. This time Dean banged over from two points out for a 14 0 margin. Dailey got into the scoring actbefore time in the half expired as he broke loose for 26yards and a touchdown with 2:36 left before intermission, Dailey broke over for the two point conversion and a 22* 0 halfiime lead.The powerful fullback cashed in for still diore points in the third period on a 13 yard jaunt. This time, however, the extra poait attempt failed.Berryvi 1 le finally cranked upthe offense long enough to put six points on the board. David Stokes did the dirty work and finally crashed his way over from one yard out to net the score. The extra point failed.Dailey scored the final Alma touchdown in the fourth period after Thell Parker’s 45 yardrun had set up the play. The scoring run covered one yard. Iubby Dillion made good on the extra point for a 36 6 mar gin.Alma led in the first down department with 13 while the Bobcats had 12. The Airedales racked up 358 yards on the ground while the visitors were held to a mere 167. Berryville held the edge in the passing de partment with 76 yards while the home town bunch couldmanage wily nine. Alma led in the total yardage category with S67 to 246 for Berryville.Pat Harrison received praise for his outstanding blocking in the offensive line. Defensively Mike Woods at linebacker, Eddie Bryant at defensive halfback and Danny Ranthman all received praise for their outstanding play.Alma will continue the playoff trail either Friday or Satur day when they take on Clinton. The probable playing site is Arkansas Tech. We really don't know just yet how it will be set up. In fact we’re in the process of finding out, said head Alma mentor Billy Bock.Clinton should provide a rough test for the Airedales. Tney’ve got a perfect 9 0 rec ord. I think, however, we’veplay a bit harder schedule withquite a few AA schools, said Bock.Victories for Clinton havecome at the exfien.se of Berryvillo and a rugged Atkins bunch. They certainly won’the pushovers. They’ve got a fine team. We’ll really have to have a fine effort to win, said Bock.
