WEIGHT LIFTING STARTED at Linton High School Tuesday as the weight lifting club began working toward the1.000 pound mark again. Only one member of the Club is a1.000 pound lifter, that person being Stewart Kirchoff, a sophomore.Dan Galbraith, Linton football coach, is the club sponsor and most of the members are also members of the football team.Through the weightlifting club, Galbraith and assistant coach Charlie Karazsia are already at work on the 1978 football season.Linton allowed 2337 yards in nine games rushing this year and this is one area where the strength gained lifting weights will help you.The Linton pass defense was really good this year, but Galbraith attributes part of this to the yardage given up rushing. The Miners allowed only 668 yards passing in nine games for an average of 74 yards a game. The weight lifting room is open from 3 to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. For an hour and a half each day many of the Linton athletes can be seen lifting and preparing for next football season. At the same time, some might be getting ready for track or baseball, as weightlifting can help build muscles for these sports also. Many of the area basketball teams are turning to lifting weights to build strength. The universal weight lifting machine at LHS is looking more valuable every time I talk to other schools about their building programs.
