Hearne has a i0-2 record.Hearne got a break early in the second quarter when they blocked a punt at Caldwell’s 9 yard line, but lost it back on a fumble on the first play at the five. Unable to move the ball, Caldwell once again was forced to punt, this time out to the 41 yard line. It took Hearne 7 plays to cover the 41 yards and score. Andy Reed carried the ball over from one yard out. John Morehead kicked the PAT and the score stood Caldwell 19, Hearne 7.The score stood at 19-7 until late in the fourth quarter, even though both teams had made serious threats at the others goal line. With 32 seconds left in the contest Caldwell managed their final score of the night on a 26 yard pass from Lee Easter to Kenneth Urba-novsky. The drive had covered 80 yards in nine plays. Caldwell had gotten the ball at their own 20 yard line following a Hearne fumble into the endzone by Ken Johnson, with Dick Bowers falling on the ball. In the drive Robert Kocurek carried three times for 25 yards, Bowers twice for 11 yards and Skrabanek once for two yards. Steven Kyles took the hand-off and fought his way over left tackle, and went into the endzone for another six-points. Kick-off time is 7:30 p.m.Smithville will enter the game with a record of three wins, and five losses. Caldwell has a record of three wins, four losses, and a tie. Smithville has beaten Flatonia 30, Schulenburg 40-0 and Luling 37-6. Their losses have been to Yoakum 6-0, Giddings 14-6, Del Valle 47-0, Bastrop 32-18 and Columbus 15-14.The Orange and Black of Smithville are coached by Lloyd Ray, Doyle Rogers, Corky Klaerner and Pat Vacek. They are members of District 19AA. According to scouting reports the Tigers have a good running attack as well as a passing attack. Hornet Coach Morris Stone said, they have strong runners, and are strong at passing, and they are tough.Smithville operates basically frcm the T formation, but have used the “1” and split “T formation on offense this season.The Smithville ground attack is led by fullback Mike Wallace, 172 pounds, and tailback Mike Keller 170 pounds. Their passing attack is led by quarter-13 yards, and gave a real fine effort on defense, as he has been doing in many of the games all season.
