Cougars Finish 4th\in State CompetitionWALES — With only one senior among the first eight runners, the future looks rosy for the Campbellsport cross country team.The Cougars finished fourth Saturday at Kettle Morame (Nagawaukee Park) in the WIAA State Cross Country for medium schools. They had 109 points as compared to 47 for ,fixst-place Menomonee Falls North.“Our runners ran 41 seconds faster on the average than they did a year ago when we finished eighth in the state meet,’* a satisfied coach Jim Vollmer commented today.Glenn Stommel, who ran sixth a year ago, slipped to 17th on this occasion. However, his finish was ratedninth among runners representing the nine schools competing for team honors.The Cougar junior’s time of 13:47 wag. three seconds slower than his time a year ago, causing Vollmer to comment, ‘ Glenn was troubled by a shin split and he probably put out too much in the first quarter of a mile, which he led.”Teammate Rick Martiny was 18th (14:03) Jim Bub 22nd (14:13). Joe Flasch 29th (14:23) and AI Floeter 31st (14:28). Bub is the only Cougar senior who figured in the scoring.“I was particularly pleased with Flasch’s finish. He had only run junior varsity competition before this meet,” Vollmer commented.
