LEAVES STAGE TO BEGIN TRAININGNEW YORK, Nov. 1.—James J. Jeffries will not accept any theatrical engagements between now and the time he fights Jack Johnson, but will retire to the mountains of California and de/ote the entire period to active and systematic training for the championship battle, according to Sam Berger, his manager. Following the signing of articles to fight it was reported that Jeffri s had been offered $80,000 for eight months on the stage to begin at once.Sam Langford, the black Boston pugilist, is hot on the trail of Jack Johnson, and today before the m'gro champion could start for Chicago, he isued this sweeping defi.“I want Johnson to fight nje before he fights Jeffries. He can have $1,000 in cash from me the mom nt he steps into the ring. I will fight him six. ten, twenty-five forty-five or a hundred rounds for $5,000 a side—winner take the entire purse of 75 per cent I will accept any reasonable offer and will win.”
