Coach Matejowsky in his second year as head baseball coach led the team to a record of 13 wins against only three losses, and their first district championship in 20 years. Caldwell had a record of five wins and no losses in district play. They also played in their first bi-district game in the history of the school only to lose to Del Valle in eight innings I to 3.Caldwell also copped another first this season when they won the Elgin Baseball Tournament. This was the first time the Hornets have ever won a baseball tournament. Allen Garbs, Floyd Kostleka and Clarence Howell were named to the a 11-tourney team.Hornets named to the All-District 17AA team were Allen Garbs, Clarence Howell and Elton Davis.Paul Batista led the hitters during the season with a .340 batting average with 17 hits in 50 times at hat. Clarence Howell led in the inns batted in department with 12. Floyd Kostelka had 11 and Gregory Kocurek 10. Allen Garbs and Robert Kocurek led in stolen bases with 11 each.Allen Garbs led the mounds-men with a record of 9 wins aginst 2 losses. lie gave up three earned runs in 72 innings for an earned run average of 0.29. He also struck out 109batters in the 72 innings.
