ED FRENCH WILL ENTERFRIDAY RACE IN PORTLANDHOQUIAM, May 29.—Ed. French, the Hoquiam motorcycle speed wizard, left this morning for Portland to enter the races in .ithat city tomorrow. Decoration Day. French will give a good account of himself in the races, barring accidents.SELECTS MEN FORFOREST FIRE BOARDOLYMPIA, May 29.—Gov. Lister formally appointed today as members of the state forest fire commission Kd English, of Mount Vernon; Pat. McCoy, of Seattle, and W. W. Emery of Napavine, to succeed Joseph Irving of Everett; 11. W. Condon. of Port Gamble, and F. H. Lamb, of Hoquiam, respectively. The position of F. M. Broadbent of Morton, still is vacant, he having resigned, together with the other three, recently.the temerity to lay their hands upon.The chief is to be appointed by the mayor, subject to approval of the; council, and subordinates are to be appointed by the chief subject to approval of the mayor and a majority of the council.An ordinance providing for the improvement of Wooding street, from Cherry to Fifth Street, with plank passed. Resolutions for the improvement of Second street from K to M; First Street, from Broadway to M by building concrete sidewalks and one granting leave of absence for 30 days to Councilman A. S. Brecht, passed.The committee on the vacation of the alley in the block on which the new county hospital is being built, reported that the building was already on the alley, and the council could either vacate the same or order the building removed.
