Athletic participation at all levels regardless of skill in the ABC league in football, basketball, baseball, track and field, soccer, tennis, golf, swimming, marksmanship, wrestling and cross country. Think about it — when did our local schools start tennis, golf, swimming, soccer, etc. Western had theseactivities in the ’30s, ’40s, ’50s and ’6Qs. Of particular interest was a TomBendelow-designed golfcourse on campus, which unfortunately no longer exists. Bendelow designed Rock Spring Golf Course as well as literally hundreds around the country.Also available was horseback riding, theater and glee club and the foreign relations club. There was the Shrapnel newspaper and the Recall yearbook. Dances were heldwith Alton and Montirplln
