Royal infielders Roger Vlk and Jimmy Folaros were selected at second and shortstop, with Hopewell’s Allen Brooks taking third base.Vlk came up with some key plays for the Royals at second base and Folaros has a great glove. Brooks, a 6 - foot - 3 senior, carried the highest batting average of any first team selection with a .351 mark and 19 hits.The three outfield spots are filled by repeaters from last year. Jimmy Toombs o f Prince George, David Richardson of Colonial Heights and Dinwiddie’s Steve Day held their ground in the outfield.Day hit for a .289 average and stole 16 bases, Richardson batted .321 and Toombs recorded a .255 mark.All three starting outfieldshave quick speed, get a good jump on the bail, and have strong arms.Wade and Chudoba both have impressive earned run averages. Wade held opponents to a mere 0.84 earned runs agame and only allowed seven runs total in 50. innings.Chudoba held the opposition to 1.35 earned runs a gameand fanned 52 batters in 56 innings. Both Royal hinders won six games during the regular season.Dinwiddle catcher Allen Cousins, a young sophomore, was chosen behind the plate. An excellent defensive performer, Cousins hit for a .3U7 average and blasted three home runs.The second team batting averages are much higher with Dinwiddle’s Howard Batts the leading hitter with a .389 mark.
