deUkiah Modeleers came through with theirrshare of the 44 trophies offered in a field of 109 contestant^ ih tfe North-; ern California A.M.A. contest at the South State streci ball s park here Sunday. Winners in the Junior Di^dsion were Don- Underhill, Francis Trimeloni, ♦ 7..,-/! ■ - +Wesley Caldwell and Leon! *]gRicke. !Jgo eo[11A year's experience showedresults as members of the Ukian club, blanked at last year's meet, were able to break into the win' column against a field of veteran k contestants from such distant r points as Palo Alto, Stockton, y Alameda, Oakland, Sacramento, f Yuba City, Eureka, Santa Hosa, y San .Francisco, Valle jo, Albany and Petaluma,I Gas models of every description y ; appeared as brilliant splashes of y I color against the green of the ball B [ park field as they took their place in the flight line. Precision flight entries were graded in A, B and C classes according to the power and size of the motors. Also figuring prominently in. the meet were the sleek speed models, flown from a steel pyl'on in th e southwest eor-ner of the park. Another class ofI particular interest to admirers .of fine craftsmanship were the, intricate scale models, ranging, from World War I “Jennies’' to shining modem sportsters. ’ .Latest Eiqmpmen.' Lay visitors at the meet gazed, in wide-eyed astonishment at the array of starting motors, tool kits, battery banks and other bewilder-J ing apparatus assembled by the ' model builders arid flyers to service their, craft. The meet was \ruri off with all the eiabpratefpr^fslop and adherence: to ^^/characteristic of the operatton of a ihodern airdrome;:with' fibers ' and mechanics busy all day on the tune-up strip adjoining the flight circles, nursing thfcir planes into tiptop operating condition preparatory to their turn before the exj* pert eyes of the judges ;Mechanics swarmed briefly into the flight circles, trundling .ingeni^ ous starting motors mounted on rubbertired carts to service the tiny aircraft for the take-offs arid remained close at hand, anxiously watching the performance of the planes in the expert hands of the flyers.Even the regalia. worn by the various model clubs was colorful.
