He won the broad jump »n the district meet held at Crawfordsville a week ago.The half mile run was a thriller. Fields gained a slight lead at the stait and up to within a hundred yards of the local goal he had materially improved this. At this point the Shelbj-ville contestant showed a wonderful sprint and spurted up to the hee s of the local runner. Fields beat him to the tape by a scant yard. The winners of first honors in the track and field events were presented with bronze medals containing gold plates. The feat of Roy Fields in being one of the very few athletes in the state who won a first is a well-deserved one. He has worked ha»dand trained conscientiously for two years in track athletics, and his efforts for the sectional and state meets were made alone, without coach or trainer.Rochester won the meet with Manual Training school, of Indianapolis, second.
