He led the conference with seven home runs and 40 runs batted jn.West Liberty likewise had three players honored. In addition to Wojcik, the coaches tabbed Rick Martini, a shorts-top-catcher. and Jon Kertes, an out-fielder.West Virginia State had twohonorees: league-leadingbatsman Reginald Coleman and in-fielder Pat Matthews.The rest of the squad included Alderson-Broaddus pitcher Steve Lesser, Salem infielder, Ziggy Brown and Concord outfielder Robert Gometz.OUTSIDE of the pitchers, five of the eight other players hit .400 or better. Coleman’s .478 was high and followed by Gometz’s .458, Brown at .433, Kertes at .431 and Smoot at an even .400. Matthews was the low man at .325. Martini hit.391 and Carlucci .397 as he dropped below the .400 mark by going zero for six in the playoffs.Carlucci had the most hits, 52, and Smoot had 50. Behind Smoot in the RBI column was Carlucci with 27. Morris Harvey played a total of 36 games. Smoot hit seven home runs, Carlucci six and Salem's Brown had five in far less games.The three pitchers won a combined number of 15 games while losing seven. Glover only lost one decision in seven and Wojcik won seven of nine. The West Liberty hurler had a 9.4 strikeout record per nine innings. In the same department Glover was 9.2 and Lesser 7.8.The earned run averages behind Wojcik’s 0.85 were 1.22 for Glover and 1.74 for Lesser.Four of the players make West Virginia their home. Wojcik is from Wheeling. Glover and Smoot from Charleston and Matthews from South Charleston.
