WINNIPEG FREE PRESS, FRIDAY, MAY 26, 196725CAHA Decisions Will Remould Structure Of Game In CanadaBy WALTER KREVENCHUKSASKATOON (CP)—'The Canadian Amateur Hockey Association wrapped up its annual meeting Thursday night after making decisions which will re-modd the structure of amateur hockey.The major step by delegates to the five-day session was ratified of a new five-year agreement with the National Hockey League which eliminates professional sponsorship of individual clubs.A joint committee will be set up to conduct a player development program to expand the number and calibre of amateur players in North America.Players will not be permitted to turn professional until they have exceeded the junior hockey age limit, which effective in the 1968-69 season, will be 20 at midnight Pec. 31.Starting this year, the professional clubs will hold an annual universal draft of over-age junior players, paying $3,000 forturtleW SHELL FINISH 1CAR WAXWORLD'SLARGESTSELLINGLIQUID CAR WAX!the first 72 placers and $2,000 for each additional choice.The $2,000 levy will also be paid for a player not taken in the draft who later turns professional.The CAHA, using a six-year guideline, will divide the draft money among amateur clubs which helped to develop the drafted players.*The NHL will pay an assessment fee of $50,000 to the CAHA for the year ending June 30 and will boost this to $75,000 the following year.The player development program has a budget of $75,000 for the year ending June 30. This will increase to not less than $250,000 the following year.The meeting reworded the constitution to give the CAIIA absolute authority to governamateur hockey.Designed primarily to keep amateur hockey disputes out of the courtroom, the amendments declare that the CAHA is a sell . governing organization whose executive committee has sole, final, absolute and exclusive powers to interpret, define and explain all provisions of the constitution, bylaws, regulations and rules.An automatic iodefinite suspension is provided for members or individuals who at any time during appeal procedures outlined in the constitution take recourse to the courts.An invitation was extended to centres possessing arenas with a seating capacity of at least 10,000 to apply for the 1970 world hockey championships.Fred Page of Vancouver, who was re-elected president, announced that applications already have been received from Montreal, Toronto, Winnipeg and Vancouver.
