CAHA INVESTIGATINGEuropean TourFor Two ClubsPORT ARTHUR (CP) - The Canadian Amateur Hockey Association decided Thursday to investigate the idea of sending two Canadian teams abroad on tours next winter.Delegates decided in the last minutes of their annual meeting to leave “at the discretion of the officers’* the question of whether Sweden should be included in any tour.As a result of friction caused when two players of the Swedish national * teams were injured in exhibition games last winter against the world champion Trail Smoke Eaters, CAHA president Jack Roxburgh suggested Canadian teams bypass Sweden for at least a year.Tours through Russia, Sweden and Czechoslovakia already have been mentioned.Favor Two Short TripsDelegates favored sending two teams for short trips rather than one team for an extendedtour. i •The toned - down decision on Sweden came just before delegates were to vote on a fnotion by Frank Dillio of Montreal that Sweden be excluded.CAHA past president Robert LeBel who also is president of the International Ice Hockey Federation, urged that more consideration be given this matter. . * .CAHA secretary - manager Gordon Juckes of Melville, Sask., said Sweden will not send a team to Canada.First bid for one of the overseas tours was made at the meeting by Bob Stevenson, president of Port Arthur Bearcats senior team. Players with the club already have cleared time off from their jobs, he said.Stevenson was promised “serious consideration.”The climax, as far as Roxburgh was concerned, came when Trail defenceman Darryl Sly crashed with a Swedish player and both fell to the ice.The Swedish player wanted to get up, he said, but the coach made him lie there, then the Swedes said Sly had kicked him for an eight inch cut and the police would handle it.The CAHA in effect, gave the go - ahead for Allan Cup champions Galt Terriers to represent Canada at the 1962 world hockey champions hips in Colorado Springs, Colo., if the team “meets all qualifications.”Later, delegates were scheduled to discuss applications for next winter’s international tours.Receipts AnnouncedReceipts of 1961 Allan Cup playoff series were produced byWinnipeg Maroons, who lost to Galt in the senior final, took in a net total of $10,255 in four series, Galt collected $4,200, Amherst $1,609 Granby $1,830, Hull - Ottawa $237, Nelson $2,-723, Port Arthur $1,709 andMoose Jaw $l£H$Tbe CAHA, which collects 10 percent of each series gate, received $10,800.TALLMAN PAVINGJU 9-4351For All Your Asphalt Paving NeedsIndustrial, Commercial and Residential WorkFREE ESTIMATESAll Work Fully GuaranteedThe Only BlotEarlier, Roxburgh described the Swedish incident as the only blot resulting from European tours by three Canadian teams —Trail, Winnipeg Maroons and Chatham Maroons.Dealing with the incident, which resulted in the Canadian players being dubbed “Canadian brutes” by Swedish newspapers, Roxburgh took a solid stand behind the conduct of the Smoke Eaters. Two players with the Swedish national team were put out of action when hit by Trail de-fencemen with what Roxburgh described as clean bodychecks. Both injured players had com-mited the “unforgiveable sin” of having their heads down. Neither check drew a penalty.lt;lt;olt;O'WINNIPEG MOTORS 1CAR LEASING j(It's less expensive than owning.
