Sunday, May 26, 1957mMRS. CARL DIBB admires the handsome trophy she was awarded along with th« Buccaneer outboard motor held by Tarpon Tournament Chairman Arnold Yates for entering the first tarpon of the 1957 International Tarpon Tournament. The award was made during ceremonies at City Pier yesterday.GONE FISHIN'By LOU DURKINThe first week of the 27th annual Sarasota County International Tarpon Tournament ended at noonyesterday with the awarding of the I first prizes of the 1957 tournament by General Chairman Arnold Yates JFirst to receive an award was Mrs. Earl Dibb, who was present-eu with a new Buccaneer motor for brining in the first fish of thetournament to the City Pier weighstation.Mrs. Dtbb. who landed a 76 pounder on opening day was also awarded a special trophy com memoratmg the event. sThe weekly prize winner wasMrs. Cecila Trinker. of Cape Haze,Placida. who registered a 104pounder taken at Boca Grandelast Sunday, but since it was late arriving at the City Pier weigh station it couldn't qualify for thefirst caught award. There has been some confusion in the awarding of prizes because of the far-flung weigh stations for the tournament, the weigh stations being located at points all the way from Anna Maria Island on thenorth to Boca Grande in the south.Because of this some of thecatch reports were late coming in this weekendJ + *As a suggestion to the committee we might recommend s setup similar to last year when the week s competition ended at noon on Friday giving the officials until 11 a.m. Saturday to check the list of catches to determine the weekly winner. The camps serving as weigh stations are also going to have to cooperate with the tournament officials by notifying them, every day of the catches that have been made rather than waiting until the end of the week and sending them in a group.Much of the value of the tournament will be lost unless there is a steady flow of publicity on the catches and there can't be publicity unless everyone along the line cooperates and gets the necessary information to the newspapers and radio stations Ag a. further suggestion it would help the news media if as much information on the catch and some interesting sidelight information on the anglers was included in the reports.♦ ♦ ♦Following Hi a lint of the pairons of the tournament, individual* and firms who contributed cash, trophies, or other awards to help make the tournament a success.Heading the list is Wayne Hibbs.past-president of the tourney, and Era SchmidhoCfer, who has made trophies and plaques for SITT for the past seven yearsOthers are!
