Picnic for the Pearl.A glove contest was advertised to take place at the Minneapolis Comique last evening, the contestants being the Black Pearl and a restaurant waiter named Dwyer. The Pearl was to stop Dwyer in six rounds. Well, it was the worst dub affair that was ever seen, and disgusted every one. Both men came up smiling, Dwyer's flesh looking as white as a child’s beside that of his black antagonist. Dwyer was greeted with cat calls and laughter, as it was plainly seen that hlt;* and boxing-g.ioves were strangers. Two rounds (or what purported to be two rounds) were fought, Dwyer going to his chair and holding onto the ropes several times. The Pearl wouldwalk up to him, smash him once or twice and then dance around, thus giving the poor devil a chance to breathe. Before the two rounds were ended, Dwyer, after getting hit in the nose, looked reproachfully at the Pearl, walked slowly to his corner, drew off his gloves and sat down. The crowd hissed and yelled at Dwyer until he was hid behind the curtains.
