For some' time past the County Jumpers, of Eldora, have been secretly practicing base ball with a view to challenging the Gun Club to a match game for a purse. When they had played a great many games, and selected their best men, they sent a very sarcastic challenge to the Gun Club to play them for a box of fine cigars, and gate money. To their surprise the challenge was promptly accepted, and a game arranged for Thursday of last week. The Counter Jumpers appeared in hue trim, their nine being composed of the following worthies; Chas. Stauffer, Bert Buchanan, C. E. Petty. If. Snyder, Joe Milner, W. J. Martin, W. Peisen, Milo Wood and Dick Protheroe. They were loud in their praises of themselves and quietly chuckling over their success of which they were well assured. The Gun Club had never played a game of base ball. They came quietly to 'the ground, however, makiug no pretentions 'or fuss. They placed their nine composed of the following men; Geo. Wisner, W. S. Porter, G, W. Ward, I* J. Martin, W. If. Martin, Geo. Waterhouse, A, A. Churchill, 12. C. Gimmick and W. K. 81 John, in position, and the game was called, with II. 12. Bateson umpire. The game was a good one, the score standing lb to ‘18 in favor of the Gun Club. The Gun Club showed that they Were capable of playing a hard game, and the Counter Jumpers were the sorest set of base ball players we have ever looked upon. Another game may be expected soon.
