It is also blessed (?) with an organization styling itself “The Nldoral Counter Jumpers’ Naso Ball Club,” who reorganize every spring and render day | daugorous by throwing and catching) balls on the streets and commons, and I night hideous by indulging in loud talk and usirtg base ball slang or bragging of their ability to porform wonderful feats on the diamond. Their captain, J. Harvey Snvdor, the well known base ball innimger of the northwest, was under instructions frmu his club to arrange a series of matches with somn of the leading clubs id the country. About two weeks ago a gentleman belonging to neither organization, having tired of] the constant self-laudation of the mem-1hereof the o. j. club quietly suggested! that there were several members of the gun dub who used to play ball very well. He was immediately surrounded by an excited mob of counter jumpers, who were anxious to bet anywhere from $1.00 to $iKX that the the gnu club couldn't score a run in nine innings. One word and another led to a sarcastic challenge from the counter jumpers to the gun club, offering to play a game for a box of cigars of IMmmick’s best, and to their surprise tho challenge was accepted and the match arranged for Thursday last, j The counter jumpers appeared on the hold in due form, Bushed with confidence and thoroughly enjoying them-
