Players wear masksREGINA (CP) — The Canadian Amateur Hockey Association passed a resolution Tuesday making it mandatory that minor hockey players use facemasks.Following a report by referee-in-chief Bob Nadin of Toronto, delegates at the annual meeting agreed facial shields must attach to the helmet at the forehead and cover the entire face to the point of the jaw.The CAHA will not insist that masks worn next season be approved by the Canadian Standards Association but it is likely CSA approval will be required the following year.Alterations to any mask, such as cutting out of protective bars or widening eyeholes, will mean the equipment cannot be worn in games, Nadin said. The CAHA has learned Swedish and Czechoslovak national hockey federations plan to make facemasks compulsory next season.Nadin said the CAHA probably would have insisted on using only approved masks this season but “there may be a problem getting masks to some regions, especially in isolated areas, by the start of the year.
