Boston Speedway opens its Saturday night racing programs on Memorial Day, May 30th, with a 220-lap holiday card that features the late model sportsman ears for the first time this season at the popular .357-mile paved, high-banked oval.Saturday night’s action, beginning at 8 p.m., will include a 50-lap feature event for the late model sportsman ears and a 30-lap feature event for the limited sportsman machines. Two l(Hap heat races will precede each feature event.four famous Richmond *H boys, Ted Hairfield, Ray Hendrick, Runt Harris and Sonny Hutchins, along with another Richmond hotshot, Bill Dennis, will head a stellar field of late model sportsman drivers that will also include Paul Radford of Ferrtim, Jimmie Hensley of Ridgeway, Eddie Royster of Middleburg, N C Carlton Coleman of Fredericksburg, and Pee Wee Wentz and Sammy Long, both of Danville.The Saturday night Memorial Day racing program will also feature for the first time this year at South Boston Speedwaythe new limited sportsman racers. These machines will replace last season's late model hobby cars and will be noticeably faster than, the hobby machines.Hensley, a seeond-plaee finisher in last month’s South Boston 400, leads the late model sportsman drivers into Satur day night’s battle in current track point standings followed closely by A1 Grinnan of Fredericksburg and Jackie Clifton of Horsepasture. All three driv* Chevelles.Harris, one of the most noted of the fame “H” boys of Richmond, will be in the Junie Don* Jeavy Ford and will be making his first South Boston appear anee after a one year layoff.After the Saturday night Memorial Day opener, the speedway will be idle the following Saturday night but will return with the late model sportsman cars again on Saturday night. June I3th.The speedway also has on tap the second Grand American race for the season at South Boston on Saturday night, July 11th, while a 100-mile Grand National race is set for Satur day night, August 29th.
