No Copyright On BeardsNEW YORK. May 24.—CP— Beyond peradventure, to take words right out of Federal Judge John M. Woolsey’s mouth, there can be no copyright oil the grow-1 ing of beards.“From time immemorial,’ said |the court, “beards have been in the public domain. Any man, if so minded, may—without being subject to challenge, legal or equitable—not only grow such beard as he can, but may purposely imitate another’s facial shrubbery, even to the extent of following such topiary modification thereof as may have caught his fancy.”Judge Woolsey was ruling in the cause of the House of David of Benton Harbor, Mich.—where beard growing is an art—against Louis Murphy of Spring Valley, 111., the proprietor of a bearded baseball team. The House ot David sought—and the court granted—an injunction to stopMurphy from continuing this practice, the House of David claiming prior rights to the use of beards on ball players. The court found nothing wrongin the fact that the Murphy boyswore beards, but held that theuse of uniforms bearing the legend “House of David’’ was indication “beyond peradventure that the defendant (Murphy) is actuated by a desire not only un-1 fairly to avail himself of the j quaint appearance of the plain-1tiff’s team, but to masquerade as the plaintiff’s team and thus unfairly compete with it.’’GENERAL ELECTRICRefrigeratorsBEFORE YOU HUY CALL 273 FOR SALESMANHAYNES HARDWARE Co.203-5 W.
