(CP) — The Canadian Amateur Hockey I Association will soon have its first full-time president.. I I The CAHA decided unanimously at its annual meeting I Tuesday that the position of president is no longer a part-I time position to be handled on a voluntary basis.I The restructuring of the CAHA now leaves the presidentI responsible to the board of directors with a chairman in I charge. The duties of the executive director remain un-I changed.I Gord Renwick of Cambridge, Ont., serving his final I term as president, said a country-wide search for the new I president would begin immediately. Renwick said neither I he nor vice-president Frank McKinnon would apply for I the position. McKinnon would have been Renwick’s ; I successor under the old format.I Renwick, 44, who has been on the CAHA executive for 10 i I years, received the CAHA meritorious award at a dinner I Tuesday night. |I The CAHA executive of the year award also went to an I Ontario hockey man. Clarence (Tubby) Schmalz of I Walkerton, former commissioner of the Ontario Major I Junior Hockey League and a nominee for CAHA vice-I chairman, was honored at the dinner.I Former president Jack Devine and Gordon Juckes,I former executive director, were given life-time mem-I berships, while representatives from each of the five7 I national championship teams were also honored.I Bill Abercrombie of Petrolia Squires was given a watch I as the most valuable player in the Allan Cup senior A final I series against Steinbach, Man., Huskies.I Others given awards were Bart Hunter of Portland I Winter Hawks (Memorial Cup-Major Junior A); Dunston I Carroll of Sherwood-Parkdale, N.S., Metros (Centennial I Cup-Tier 2 junior A); Remi Levesque of Moncton, N.B.,I Hawks (Hardy Cup-Intermediate A); and Mario Dore of I St. Foy,Que. (Air Canada Cupmidget). ,I Edmonton’s Randy Bucyk, nephew of Johnny Bucyk,I former National Hockey League star with Boston Bruins,I was named minor player of the year.I In other business Tuesday:I —Jim Kinkley of Toronto, former president of the I Ontario Minor Hockey Association, was appointed to the I CAHA executive as a director for minor hockey. Kinkley I replaces Cliffe Phillips, who resigned his post.I —The executive rejected a resolution that would have I allowed juvenile hockey to have three years of eligibility I instead of the present two.I —Rule change amendments for the 1979-80 and 1980-81 I seasons as approved at the semiannual meeting were I given “rubber-stamp” approval.I —Any championship team wishing to retain the trophy I until June 15 must post a bond or certified cheque for I $2,000 to ensure the return of the trophy to the Hockey Hall I of Fame.I The annual meeting continues until Friday.
